Since 2012, Rewilding Europe has established itself as a pan-European initiative, operating at the frontline of rewilding at a European scale. Rewilding Europe is creating enabling conditions for nature to thrive within now ten large rewilding landscapes across Europe comprising at least 5.8 million hectares of land and water. Dr Rob Stoneman, Rewilding Europe’s Area Coordinator, will discuss some of these projects, what they aim to achieve and the progress made so far. Restoring natural processes like forest regeneration, free-flowing rivers, natural grazing, predation and scavenging herbivory, and carnivory, are essential for healthy ecosystems. While we may never fully comprehend nature’s complexity, we can observe and understand that nature is the best manager of natural processes.
