Conifer Identification Walk

Walk

24th February

10:30 am

In association with HSS

Often people tend to focus on broadleaf trees when learning tree ID. This can be because to the novice or even the more experienced naturalist, the needle species seem a rather mystifying sea of green! Conifer ID then seems a daunting task involving fine detail and an alchemists knowledge of botany. However, that needn’t be the case.

On this walk expect to learn the key features of different conifer species from tree shape, bark, cones and needles, with Steve Blacksmith to assist you in your tree identification journey. Starting from Midgehole Upper Car Park, Hardcastle Crags, 10.30 am. Lifts available from Hebden Bridge and Todmorden.
