We’ll be checking out the highest peak in the area for Dotterel and Anthony will be luring Emperor Moths with his pheromone!
Dotterel fly from the Sahara to the Arctic tundra stopping off at high peaks and because they rarely encounter humans, they are relatively tame – they will come up and take an inquisitive sniff of your walking boots (‘dotterel’ is Old English for ‘doddering old man’).
It is also peak season for the Emperor Moth and Anthony will attempt to lure the males out of the heather – one of the highlights of the year!
We will also keep an eye out for emerging Moonwort and there are prehistoric carvings to be seen too.
